ArmInfo. The Minister of Justice of Armenia believes that the creation of the Supreme Court will not become an obstacle in the process of reforming the entire judicial system of the country. Badasyan stated this on August 31 in an
interview with journalists, referring to the possibility of uniting
the Constitutional and Cassation Courts under the roof of the Supreme
Court of Armenia.
The Minister expressed lack of understanding that some observers
believed such a move could destroy the judicial system. If so, then
the question arises, why was the semi-presidential system of
government destroyed and replaced by a parliamentary one? Thus, it is
possible to react to all reforms. As for the creation of the Supreme
Court directly, this issue is dealt with by the Commission on
Constitutional Estates, in which there are lawyers with different
positions, and this issue is being discussed in the commission>, the
Minister of Justice said.
To note, on May 16, Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said
that the issue of possible liquidation of the institution of the
Constitutional Court is being discussed and the issue of creating a
Supreme Court is being considered.
To recall, on August 24, the specialized commission with the ratio of
8 "for" and 7 "against" votes approved the concept of uniting the
Constitutional Courts of Cassation and creating the Supreme Court
instead. The question should also be raised for public comment.
